A Fate That Narcissists Will Hate: Being Ignored

December 3, 2010 by ba95 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Currently, experts have officially eliminated Narcissistic Personality Disorder off the list of mental conditions, as stated in this particular article. People of the medical world are simply outraged by the fact that a known mental condition would be simply ignored, mainly because it is hard to identify who is a Narcissist, and needs treatment, or who is just a highly conceited person. However, doctors have overlooked the fact that a Narcissist hurts themselves as a result to their ego; thinking they have the ability to do anything and everything. Also, ignoring a Narcissistic person is possibly the worst solution to the problem. Narcissists do not just want attention; they need attention, and ignoring this desperate need to be noticed can drive these people crazy. In this world, we overlook things we do not understand, like NPD, and do not want to strain ourselves looking into it. For example, ignoring something we do not understand is a major theme in the novel ‘Speak,’ by Laurie Anderson. People did not understand Melinda, because she was different. No one bothered to understand why she was the way she was either, but eventually there truly¬†was a reason for her actions.
